Starting from the winter semester 2023/24, the Studienkolleg Schleswig-Holstein offers new opportunities for international applicants.
The Studienkolleg Schleswig-Holstein, based at Kiel University of Applied Sciences, has significantly expanded its offerings for international applicants. Starting from the winter semester 2023/24, international students can now benefit from this additional program at three new locations in the state.
The Technical University of Lübeck, Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, and West Coast University of Applied Sciences in Heide are the new locations where 2-semester technical courses are offered. After successfully completing these courses, students receive the specific qualification to enter a university of applied sciences.
Guido Wendt, State Secretary for Science, Research, and Culture of Schleswig-Holstein, expressed his satisfaction with the expansion of the Studienkolleg. The initiative was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and the universities, increasing the number of places by 60 to reach a total of 140. This strengthens engineering programs and contributes to training urgently needed technical professionals.
The state of Schleswig-Holstein supports the new cooperation between universities with annual funding of 600,000 euros. This financial support makes it possible to implement the expanded program for international students.
The Studienkolleg Schleswig-Holstein, centrally located at Kiel University of Applied Sciences, manages entrance and final examinations as well as the distribution of students to the four locations in Kiel, Lübeck, Flensburg, and Heide. Courses in the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) have an average of 15 participants.
In the winter semester 2023/24, there were more than 600 applications for six technical and commercial courses, with 91 young men and women accepting their places at the Studienkolleg after the entrance examination. These students were distributed across the four locations.
Students come from various countries such as Morocco, Indonesia, Vietnam, Ukraine, Nepal, Peru, or Uzbekistan and bring a wide diversity of perspectives and experiences.
The Studienkolleg Schleswig-Holstein was founded in 1968 and has been based at Kiel University of Applied Sciences since 2009. Over the past 15 years, it has opened the path to university studies for nearly 1,200 young people from non-European countries. This is an important contribution to addressing the shortage of technical professionals and enriches the university community.
The president of the West Coast University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Anja Wollesen, is pleased with the expansion of the Studienkolleg to the four participating universities and emphasizes the advantages of this cooperation. The presidents of the other participating universities, Dr. Muriel Helbig (TH Lübeck) and Dr. Christoph Jansen (Flensburg University of Applied Sciences), also expressed positive opinions and emphasized the motivation and potential of the students.
The Studienkolleg Schleswig-Holstein makes an important contribution to the development of technical professionals in Schleswig-Holstein and strengthens technical professions in the region.
